This week was very interesting for me. As I read through the chapters for the class, there was one question that I really couldn't get a grasp on or decide what my opinion is. The issue of whether women should be put into the front lines of the military, and whether they should be required to sign up for the Selective Service at age 18 as men are. On one hand, the idea of equality would say that women and men should be treated equally in regards to battle; though throughout history women have typically not fought in wars. Furthermore, whether it is correct or not, some people in the military say that women typically cannot do some of the physical tasks that may be necessary in a war situation.
My opinion on it is still split. I feel that arguing over Selective Service registration for women is juvenile, as the chances of the selective service being used in the future is extremely low, and I don't feel men should be required to sign up for it either. I do fully believe that women should be allowed into any part of the military, as they are just as capable as men to do jobs in the military. However, some women may be incapable of some physical tasks that could come up in combat, and it could be a liability; though there are men who are not capable either, and I don't feel they should be allowed there either. In the end, I feel that if a woman is capable of doing things required in combat, they should be allowed to be in combat.

Welcome
Hello, my name is Adam Ward and this blog is dedicated to my thoughts, feelings, and reactions to my Gender and Communication class. It is my last semester at Utah State, and I couldn't be more excited about the classes I have. I'm most excited to learn about current feminist movements, and what different groups are doing to try and promote equality. In my spare time I enjoy photography, playing rugby, and spending time with my family.
