History of Womens Rights Movements

The history of womens rights movements is one of my favorite things to study, and I’ve never understood why it isn’t taught as widely. All through school we would spend weeks covering the founding fathers, and we would learn intimate details of their lives. However, when it came to womens rights movements, I would be lucky if a class would cover it for more than a day, despite how large of a movement it was, and how successful it was.
While the history of womens rights movements is extremely interesting, I’ve been thinking a lot about modern day womens rights movements. It’s a tough subject to research and write about, because I’m shocked that it’s still needed. However, because it is still needed makes it even more important to study it and talk about it with everyone. I feel this chapter was well timed when considering the attacks that are currently being made on womens reproductive rights by politicians and the media. The strangest part of it all is that they seem to be completely ignoring the thoughts and opinions of the people their decisions will affect the most. This shows me that while the challenges women face have changed drastically over the last 100 years, there is still a long way to go before any equality is truly reached.
